Southern Lights hosting ‘Kite’ dance

Southern Lights Square and Round Dance Club will hold a “Let’s Go Fly A Kite” dance on Saturday at the Whitmire Activity Building, 310 Lily Pond Road, Hendersonville.

Advance dance starts at 6 p.m., early rounds start at 7 p.m., and squares and rounds start at 7:30 p.m.

Caller will be Stan Russell. Cuers will be Lou and Al Krech.

Two tips will be student-level plus tips.

Simrit coming to Asheville

Simrit will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Temple Theater, 80 Broadway St., Asheville.

Vocalist and songwriter Simrit, born in Athens, Greece, adopted and raised in the American South, draws on the harmonic beauty of the Greek Orthodox chants she grew up with, adding the pulse and melodic sensibilities of West African traditions she studied intensely.

Jerusalem String Quartet to perform at Diana Wortham

The Asheville Chamber Music Series, sponsored-in-part by Altavista Wealth Management, will present the Jerusalem String Quartet in concert at 8 p.m. tonight at the Diana Wortham Theatre, located at 2 S. Pack Square, Asheville.

The concert is part of the Asheville Symphony’s Amadeus Festival.
